In SharePoint we have the possibility to use formulas in order to validate the data in the column when new items are saved to the current list. To pass validation, the formula must evaluate to TRUE.

How it’s done ?

  • go into a list and then click in the ribbon on the List tab;
  • click on List Settings;
  • under the General Settings section click on Validation Settings.

Now we must setup a formula that uses the current list columns.

How to use a formula to validate new list items ?

We will add a formula for the Pret (Price) column.  The formula will allow users to enter products that have a price that matches our condition. More than that, we will add a custom message.

Now, when a user tries to add a product that doesn’t match the formula, an error message will appear.
