When uploading files to an Office 365 portal, like in SharePoint, My Profile, etc. some users have noticed that in the file path box there is a fakepath followed by the file name: C:\fakepath

This „inconvenient” is caused by HTML 5 (the quoted text was removed from the source page):

a file upload control should not reveal the real local path to the file you have selected.

How to fix FakePath location issue ?

How to show the full path ?

Method 1: Add the page address to Trusted sites:

  • go to ToolsInternet OptionsSecurity tab (a) – click on Trusted Sites (b) – click on Sites (c) – add the page address (d).
  • in case of an http protocol put a check mark on the (e) option.

Method 2: Include local directory path when uploading files to a server:

  • go to ToolsInternet OptionsSecurity tab – click on Internet – click on Custom level;
  • search for the Miscellaneous section – Include local directory path when uploading files to a server – check the Enable option.

For both methods, the result is the same: now the location box displays the full path.
